Learn about Low Carb Lifestyle

Dr Charlton Low Carb GP

Welcome to my page

I am a General Practitioner working in Wantirna, Victoria for the last 15 years. I studied in the University of Melbourne. I did my hospital years in Box Hill Hospital and subsequently entered into General Practice.

I love my job as a GP. I have worked in the same clinic for so long that some of the babies or kids that I have seen have grown up into teenagers. It is a rewarding job looking after families. I have special interests in Obstetrics, Women’s health, Paediatrics and recently practicing Low Carb medicine.

After growing my babies, I have been looking for ways to get my fitness back. I have 2 boys, now 13 and 10 years old. years ago, I decided I need to loose weight and become more fit. I joined the gym and also started C25K run program. To my surprise, this started an amazing life changing journey of fitness, health, passion, satisfaction, new friendships and accomplishment.
I joined the local gym. I also started running. Running became my hobby. I trained and ran my first marathon in 2019 after running for 5 years. Previously, I did not exercise. I ran my second marathon in 2021.

From joining the gym and participating in a Body Transformation Challenge, I learnt that to become healthy, a low carb lifestyle is the key. I, then, dived in to learn about the science of Low Carbohydrate Nutrition. I did further courses by Low Carb Down Under and Nutrition Network. I read many books on the latest about nutrition. I had to unlearn what was taught at medical school. I learnt new ways to look at nutrition, chronic diseases, and health. I recommend the low carb lifestyle to patients whenever relevant. I have reversed diabetes, gout, metabolic syndrome, obesity in many patients.

In December 2020, I helped Tracey McBeath (The Health and Healing coach) and a few others to set up a new Facebook group called Low Carb Melbourne. That also helped me connect with many people in the low carb community. I also connected with a few other doctors that practice low carb medicine.  There is a whole lot of satisfaction with helping people.

At the moment, I am learning from ACNEM (Australasian College of Nutrition and Environmental Medicine). I am studying to become a fellow. I also joined The NIIM Clinic (National Institute of Integrative Medicine) in Hawthorn, one day a week, as an integrative GP. My special interest is women’s health, nutrition, metabolic syndrome, children’s health, pregnancy care and pre-pregnancy care.
